No substandard job allowed in Akwa Ibom State - Ephraim Inyangeyen By Osondu Ahirika

The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated her resolve to reject and resist the execution of any substandard job by contractors.


The Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen dropped the hint while ordering the contractor handling a road project in Uyo village to ensure proper excavation of unsuitable earth material before refilling with red earth and proceeding with other processes to ensure durability, quality and adherence to the project specification.


Commissioner Inyangeyen who gave the directives in response to an outcry from residents of Uyo village and Ebong Street in particular, that, the contractor was not thorough in his work, expressed delight that, the people have risen to the occasion to police and monitor projects executed by the State government in their areas.


The Works Commissioner said, the Sensitization of our communities to understand that, government projects belong to them is paying off, with this welcome development, even as he charged other members of the society to be alert and ensure, no contractor executes a substandard project in their localities.


Responding to inquiries about the ongoing massive overhaul of street lights in major roads of Uyo Capital City, Commissioner Inyangeyen explained that, the State Government is determined to get street lights working after, the severe acts of vandalism.


He disclosed that, Governor Emmanuel has directed that, everything possible is done to restore street lights, while newly built major roads are also fitted with street lights, so that the city of Uyo can be well lit at night and become safer for visitors and residents.


Commissioner Inyangeyen said his Ministry is currently working round the clock to ensure that, the road projects billed for commissioning as part of activities marking the Third Anniversary of the Udom Emmanuel led PDP administration is delivered in top condition and those to be inspected are also sorted out to avoid any hitches.


He promised a harvest of Roads in this round of commissioning, and pledged to unveil the roads ready for the Peoples use across the State before Democracy Day celebrations.
