The defectors were drawn mainly from ward 1, the home ward of Senator Bassey Albert who is facing stiff resistance to his reelection bid within PDP in Uyo Senatorial District.
Receiving the defectors, who were also drawn from wards 8 and 11 at Town Hall, Use Ndon, Ibiono Ibom, the APC State Secretary, Dr. Effiong Etok commended them for taking the courageous decision to abandon PDP and assured them of equal opportunities as old members in the APC.
He said that the APC was set to sweep the 2019 general elections in all parts of the state including Ibiono Ibom.
Responding on behalf of the defectors, their leaders from each of the three wards, Mr Matthew James Akpan, Mrs Helen Anietie and Mr. Eseme Ikpeme Inyang said they left PDP because of impunity and infighting and promised to work hard to ensure APC's victory.
The event was witnessed by a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Engr Ignatius Edet, a former Director of Protocol to the Governor, Akparawa Okon Imerh, a former Chairman of Ibiono Ibom local government, Obong Emmanuel Udoh, a former Ibiono Ibom PDP chapter chairman, Chief Eyibio Udofia, a veteran politician, Elder Monday Akrah and two oil moguls, Engr Kufre Inyang and Engr Ofonime Ekanem.
