GOV EMMANUEL COMMENCES STATEWIDE RETRAINING PROGRAMME FOR AKWA IBOM TEACHERS By Umoh-Obong Kingsley

In an unrelenting effort towards ensuring that students in the state are given quality and sound education, the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has inaugurated a retraining programme for public secondary school teachers across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Setting the tone, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Mrs Idongesit Etiebiet, noted that the exercise was to equip teachers with  modern teaching methods needed to function as professionals in an evolving world.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Victor Inoka, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Elder Wisdom Ekpo, commended Governor Emmanuel for conducting the Re-training exercise for teachers across the three senatorial districts of the state. He noted that the training exercise would upgrade the teaching skills of teachers in the state and in turn, produce highly motivated and contentious teachers across secondary schools in the state. Inoka re-iterated that the exercise was in line with the sustainable Development Goals and requirements set up by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on education.

In a goodwill message, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Social and Ethical Reorientation, Mr Ime Bishop Umoh, thanked the Governor for the decision to retrain teachers in the state, and urged the teachers to make good use of the opportunity for the benefit of the state and the society.

On her part, the Media Aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel on New Media , Mrs Meflyn Anwana, commended Governor Emmanuel for  being consistent in his commitment to providing free, compulsory and qualitative education for  the AkwaIbom Child while re-iterating  the importance of the Upgrade which includes the use of Digital Media for the purpose of learning in order to meet up with new learning methods and  global best practices.

The opening ceremony for the 3-day programme started on Wednesday, 16 May, 2018 at the Civic Centre, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, for Uyo Senatorial District, and continues till Friday 19.
