The Game Of Thrones author is still writing the final instalments A Song Of Ice And Fire, with the last book published in 2011.
Game Of Thrones creator George RR Martin has given hints about the ending of his books after seeing the hit series come to an end - and also said he suspects we have "not seen the last of Westeros" on TV.
The author wrote about the finale of the epic fantasy series on his blog, saying it had been "a wild ride" since his first meeting with the show's writers David Benioff and DB Weiss more than a decade ago.
He is still writing the final instalments of his series of books, A Song Of Ice And Fire, with Game Of Thrones the show having overtaken the published novels - the last one released in 2011 - in its sixth season.
Martin helped producers as they continued the story on screen and there has been much speculation about whether the ending will turn out to be true to his original vision.
In his blog post, Martin promised the sixth and seventh books, The Winds Of Winter and A Dream Of Spring, "will be done".
"I'm writing," he said. "Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is.
"The Winds Of Winter is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done. I won't say when, I've tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A Dream Of Spring.
