A One Day Sensitization Conference for Principals is and Senior Perfects of Public, Technical and Private Secondary Schools on Pertinent Social Vices in Akwa Ibom State
Organized by the Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission, EARCOM, holding at Community Secondary School, Aka Offot.
EARCOM boss, Dr Mrs Dorothy Thompson, in league with other members of the Commission, in her opening remarks, said, the Commission desires to help push Governor Udom Emmanuel's vision of a society rid of social vices including, cultism, prostitution, violence, rape, vandalism, kidnapping, drug abuse and other evils of juvenile delinquency.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem is represented by Rev. Dr Sylvia Umoh.
Declaring the conference open, Dr Ekuwem said vices such as homosexuality, lesbianism, robbery and rebellion are problems that hold youths in bondage. He charges the youths to pull out of all these vices and embrace salvation in Jesus Christ, shunning cultism and every form of evil.
Chairperson of the occasion, Professor Eno Urua of the Department of Linguistics, University of Uyo described the conference as timely and a welcome development. She maintained that the conference is necessitated by abnormal things in the society today, which in this Era is sadly considered as normal.
Prof. Urua called for a return to the age where young people were responsible, kind, considerate, selfless, respectful, law abiding and God fearing. She charged parents and teachers to invest very well in children by teaching them the right values and morals without abandoning their spiritual and values system.
