President Buhari meets Saraki, Dogara over Benue killings, others

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, January 14, met with the leadership of Nigeria's federal legislature over the security situation in Benue state and other parts of the country.

The meeting, which held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was attended by the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara.

The meeting held after many Nigerians lambasted the government for not being proactive in addressing the insecurity issues in many states of the federation.

The presidency, however, explained via its Twitter account that President Buhari called the meeting to brief the duo of Saraki and Dogara on efforts by his government in addressing the issue.

Meanwhile, the Senate ad hoc committee on security is currently in Benue state on a fact-finding mission over the killings and destruction by herdsmen in the state.

The visit is as a result of a directive from the Senate president for members of the committee to immediately resume sitting and work through the weekend to ensure they have an interim report ready for the consideration of senators by next week.
