2019: ABAK LGA BEGS NSIMA EKERE TO CONTEST

Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election, electorates in Abak Local Government Area have pleaded with the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere to contest for the governorship seat, noting that he has the solution to unemployment which has caused the state to currently emerge the second most unemployed state in the country.

Arising from a new year get together of Otoro Ward 2, where Mrs Inyeneobong Iboro Johnny also used the occasion to fete members of the ward, the leadership of All Progressive Congress in the ward spoke in glowing terms of benevolence bestowed on Abak Local Government Area by the Nsima Ekere-led commission, specifically applauding the commission for ameliorating the Hospital Road menace which was more or less a death trap.

Setting the tone, a ward elder, Evangelist Monday Elijah, (who also moved motion for the M.D. of NDDC to contest) commended Mr. Ekere for many internal roads constructed as well as schools renovated in Abak Local Government Area within his stay in office, disclosing that Abak and by extension Annang natives were grateful for the gesture.

He also commended the Ikot Abasi-born MD for appointing Annang indigenes as his aides and technical assistant in the commission, thereby  expressing their joy in the appointment of Hon. Uwem Udoma as well as Engr Iboro Johnny - sons of the Local Government Area as aide and technical assistant respectively.

The elder disclosed that but not for gigantic projects executed by the Interventionist agency, Abak as well as Ikot Ekpene senatorial district would have gone into oblivion, maintaining that the state government impact has not been felt in the district despite having the Deputy Governor and other top government functionaries.

The cleric portrayed Mr. Nsima Ekere as one embedded with humility and experience, expressing optimism that as a former Deputy Governor of the state he would move the state to an enviable height.

"If you check the track record of Obong Nsima Ekere, you would observe humility embedded in him, maybe the reason why Godswill Akpabio described him as the best deputy governor he had amidst his colleagues at the Red Chamber.

"His wealth of experience is ingredient needed in a time like this where insult, name calling and disunity have become the order of the day in our dear state.

"We need his wealth of experience to take our children off the street and also integrate our elders and women into the national grid" He said.

In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of APC in Abak Local Government Area, Mr. Nse Udokpa, himself an indigene of the ward, applauded the NDDC for including Abak in its developmental strides.

He also urged faithful to be law abiding and embrace the APC-led government, emphasizing that it was a bad omen for the state to play opposition party come 2019.

The ward chairman, Mr. Idaraesit Umana urged NDDC not to relent its efforts in bettering the lot of the Local Government Area in its scheme of development, stressing that so far the domain appears to be a political orphan as no meaningful development has touched the ward for about three years.

He commended the prompt effort of the commission in salvaging the Hospital Road collapse bridge, recalling that though letters, pleas, and supplications were channelled to the state government, the Udom government failed to act..

He pledged the readiness of the ward executive to support NDDC and the federal government and pleaded with the MD to accept the plea to contest.

Others who also spoke in glowing terms about the MD of NDDC included the political leader of the ward, Elder Ezekiel Nathaniel Udoh, the ward youth leader, Mr. Nsidibe Umana, the women leader, Mrs. Caroline Bright, the Vice chairman, Mr. Aniekere Johnson and one of the founding members of the party in Annang land, Dr. George Hogan.

Otoro Ward 2, the home base of Late Dr. Ime Umana has four villages namely; Uruk Uso, Ikot Asom, Nko Otoro and Ikot Obioko.
