WHAT IS MARRIAGE TO YOU?

Do you see marriage as a prison; a loss of right, subjection to control, infringement on your freedom? Do you see it as tradition, a custom, a ritual, a ceremony, a status or position, a means to a living to acquire wealth or property, a medium for your sexual needs?

Some people even think marriage is not so important and being in a relationship is all that you need, while others think marriage is just a fancy word for adopting an over grown man/woman-child who can't take care of him or herself.

Many people don't understand why they have to get married. Our society makes people feel like failures if they are not married at a certain age. This makes people rush into marriage just to please society, family, church, parents and friends. It is not surprising to find out that people don't know why they are married and it is one of the reasons why many marriages fail. The vows said on most wedding days are just empty words or routine.

God our Creator thought it wise, that it was not good for man to live alone. For the man to accomplish his task assigned him on earth, he needs a helper, and one major helper a man needs is a spouse which comes about through marriage. Again, lets be mindful that not everyone has the grace for marriage and therefore it means they will have their helpers in other forms.

Develop a lasting emotional connection with one person you can share your life and heartbeat with; someone who understands you better when the world is at a loss of who you are.

Finding such person and falling in love with them makes life more than just a living; it makes life beautiful, gives you strength when you are weak, gives you hope when you are down. Marriage is about falling in love with someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with, someone you won't get tired of.

Someone you continuously visualize your life with, someone you plan your future with; building together finances, businesses, children, etc. Someone you trust and confide in more than any other person; someone you enjoy the simplest moments together, whether walking, shopping, cooking, watching television, etc.

Someone you support, cheer on, believe in, pray for and above all bring the best out of each other. Someone you have a love for their family and the people that matter to them; someone you look forward waking up to. Someone with only whom you can share your body, and any thought otherwise with anyone else disgusts you like hell.

There are fights in marriages, there is disagreement in marriage but the beauty is that we fight to hold on, agree to disagree. You know you are part of a pair, a unit, where one cannot work without the other.

Marriage is giving one's life for the other and doing that which makes the couple happy.

In conclusion "And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” - Acts 20:35 (NLT).
