Three U.S troops and one partner nation member were killed in an ambush

Three US soldiers and one partner nation member have been killed while two others wounded when a joint US-Nigerien patrol was ambushed in southwest Niger near the Mali-Niger border. A Nigerien security official also said five Nigerien soldiers also were killed in the attack.

According to CNN, two administration officials said the troops who were wounded have been evacuated to the capital, Niamey, and would soon be moved to Germany.

The names of the officers are being withheld as part of the next of kin notification process. A US defense official speaking to CNN said that operations were underway in the area to locate the attackers.
