Great British Bake Off legend Mary Berry has given her verdict on the show on its new home of Channel 4 and confessed she is watcing it and thinks the revamped version is “wonderful”.
The 82-year-old TV star has been replaced on the popular baking series by restaurateur and cookery writer Prue Leith, but Mary is full of praise for the new team and refused to criticise Prue or new presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig.
Speaking to Yahoo Celeb UK at the TV Choice Awards in London’s The Dorchester last night, Mary gave the new show her seal of approval and said: “I have looked at it yes, and I have to say it’s a wonderful format.
“It’s a wonderful creation that programme, and it’s followed the same lines. It continues to be brilliant.”
Mary relished her time on Bake Off, but is now happy to sit back and watch Paul and Prue in action.
Commenting on her former co-judge offering two handshakes to delighted bakers in the opening episode, she said: “The standard seems very good and Paul likes giving out his handshakes. I mean he knows his stuff and he’s a very good judge.”
