No fewer than 2,000 people defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano state on Monday, March 13.
Leadership reports that the APC members defection to PDP took place in Sumaila local government area of Kano state. It was gathered that the former members of the APC were all received by an ex-governor of Kano state Ibrahim Shekarau, Aminu Wali and Gambo Salau.
The defectors led by Surajo Kanawa accused the ruling party of allowing the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters, Abdulrahman Sumaila, to run the APC like his empire. The aggrieved former APC members said that Sumaila only favours members of the Kawu empire whom he recognises as authentic members of the party in the area.
He also alleged that through his highhandedness, Sumaila has blocked all channel employed by members to reach the APC headquarters for complaints while treating members with contempt. He also said that lack of equity, fairness and internal democracy has made the APC's future appear bleak in the local government area.
