HOW MUCH LOVE IS TOO MUCH? by Counselor Adofoli

Yesterday right after church I had one of my favourite food, an Ewe man whose favourite is fufu and light soup. As much as I was excited because it had been awhile, I realized the salt content was not okay. In an attempt to add some salt, I ended up adding more than the right quantity. At the end of the day, I couldn't eat the food.

I was hungry and hurt, angry at myself. The smiling and happy man had turned into something else because of that incidence.

This is one of the typical examples of how we treat relationships in life. There are people you care for and love but in actual fact, they don't care about you. You want them, but they don't want you. You see them as a need, but they don't see you as one. You think about them, but they don't think about you.

As in my case I needed the salt but only in the right quantity.it didn’t need me, and when I mistakenly added more than the right amount, it rather caused more harm than good.

In such a situation, what do you do? Yes you need them, you want to care for and love them, but not more than what they deserve. For when you give them more than they deserve, you get hurt at the end of the day.

We are born out of love and willing to serve others. It hurts us to see people going the wrong path in life, and we spend all our time and effort trying to correct them; yet we get hurt in the end and yield no results.

The truth is, God knows your heart; just your thought of this goodness is enough, what you can do is pray for them. One of the best gifts you can give people like that is prayer. Love them from a distance.

As much as you love them, you ought to love yourself first. One of the greatest commandments in the bible is "You must love others as much as yourself" - Mark 12:31 (TLB). This also means give people the right proportion of love and care they deserve.

If they don't appreciate what you do for them, please give yourself enough respect by walking away from people who don't see your worth.

This also means they have not accepted you and for that fact, you don't belong there. You can't lose what you never had, can't keep what is not yours and you cannot hold on to something that doesn't want to stay.

Love is a gift so you shouldn't chase it. If they can't freely give you the attention and affection, then it’s not worth having it.

There is no sense in forcing someone to love you or rushing someone to accept you. Even if they do, it might not come from the heart; such love is fake and will hurt you in the long run.

In conclusion "In this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God but His love for us when he sent his Son to satisfy God’s anger against our sins" - 1 John 4:10 (TLB).

Please share with your friends, someone out there needs this.
