The Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Akwa Ibom State, Obong Paul Ekpo, on Tuesday led a delegation of 31 Chapter Chairmen of the Party in the State on an unscheduled visit to Qua Iboe Church Leprosy Hospital, Ekpene Obom, Etinan Local Government Area.
Obong Paul Ekpo told the inmates that the visit was conceived today when the Chapter Chairmen paid him a courtesy visit at his residence to appreciate him for the donation of 31 brand new buses to the Party's Chapter Offices in the State. Obong Ekpo encouraged the inmates at the centre not to see their plight as the end of life, reminding them that there is ability in every disability.
The team was received by the Medical Superintendent and management staff of the centre. The Matron of the Home, Mrs Theresa Umoidem, thanked the party for the charitable gesture, but particularly bemoaned the spate of vandalization of the hospital's facilities by hoodlums. She also drew the attention of the August Visitors to the dilapidated structures at the centre, calling on the government, religious organizations, corporate bodies and public spirited individuals to come to their aid.
The Team met and interacted with the inmates, giving them a sense of belonging with the donation of a live cow, food items and toiletries, cash, among other things.
