Speaking after the win, goalscorer Morata told Sky Sports: ‘I told him [Azpilicueta] before the game, I need one today like this and he made it so I’m very happy. ‘The most important thing is I feel good now, I’m good right now and very happy. ‘It’s important but we won – very important. We have a very good chance to come back to winning ways and we’re very happy because now with international break we can go away with three points.’ Asked if his second-half header was his most important goal yet for Chelsea, Morata responded: ‘Yeah, for sure.’ Morata’s header separated the sides at Stamford Bridge.
Despite Stamford Bridge only being treated to one goal, both teams were determined to create opportunities and Cesc Fabregas was surprised by the openness of the fixture. ‘I think we had plenty of chances especially in the first-half,’ Fabregas said. ‘Overall we had a good performance, maybe it was a little bit more open that we expected.’
