THE man convicted of hacking the private accounts of celebrities has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Ryan Collins was expecting the sentence, having negotiated a plea deal with authorities earlier this year, reducing his jail time from a possible five years. He plead guilty to "one count of felony computer hacking and another of unauthorised access to a protected computer to obtain information".
Collins, 36, along with a second man, Edward Majerczyk, 28, were both detained by authorities after the private photographs of celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst, Cara Delevingne, Mary-Kate Olsen, Amber Heard, Kim Kardashian and Rihanna were leaked online. While Collins claimed responsibility for hacking "more than 100 Apple iCloud and Gmail accounts, 18 of which belonged to celebrities, using a phishing scam", he was not charged with leaking the pictures.
