CoS Abba Kyari: Atiku wasn’t born a Nigerian

President Buhari's Chief of Staff (CoS) Abba Kyari in his testimony at the Presidential tribunal on Tuesday July 30, alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar wasn't born a Nigerian.

Abba Kyari was one of the three witnesses called in by President Buhari's legal team led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN) after they tendered 26 sets of documents. Giving his testimony after the PDP and Atiku closed their case on July 19 after calling in 62 witnesses, the CoS said Jada area of Adamawa State was still part of Northern Cameroon and referred to as French Cameroons as at November 25, 1946 when Atiku claimed that he was born.

CoS Abba Kyari maintained that Atiku’s parents also qualified to be Cameroonians and further added that every child born in Jada and to Jada parents were automatically citizens of Cameroon by the French policy of assimilation and before the 1961 plebiscite was conducted.

However under cross-examination by Atiku's lead counsel Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Kyari confirmed that Atiku was vice president for eight years and also contested to be the presidential candidate of the APC in 2014. The CoS who said he is from Borno but not a Cameroonian also admitted not knowing Atiku’s grandfather and father even though he is 67 years old.

The hearing was adjourned till today July 31, at the conclusion of Kyari's testimony.

Tacha’s love letter to Nelson exposed by Thelma

Last week, the BBNaija’s housemates were asked to write a secret love letter to a fellow housemate or someone outside the house.
Thelma and Sir Dee were instructed by Big brother to steal letters in the house in return for “Betnaija” coins.Thelma stole Tacha’s letter.
After eviction from the show on Sunday, she was asked to read the letter to Ebuka. The letter turned out to be very funny as Tacha referred to Nelson as “the sugar in her tea”.
In the letter which was read out by Thelma, Tacha wrote;
“Dear Nelson, My love for you will never die, I think of you every time. I am willing to be the only cockroach in your wardrobe. The sugar in my tea and importantly the only beautiful girl in your life. Your’s lovely Tacha”
It seems Tacha has a crush on the already evicted housemate , Nelson.

Nelson and Thelma evicted from the BBNaija house

Big Brother housemates Nelson and Thelma have been evicted from the show, making them the sixth and seventh person to leave the house since the show began on June 30.

The Pepper Dem Gang edition of the Big Brother show is getting hotter as at least one house mates gets evicted from the show every Sunday. On July 21, it was Tuoyo who said goodbye to the time in the house. This week, two housemates , Nelson, has met the end of the road and will relaunch their new brand to the world.
This week, all housemates were placed on possible eviction for breaking Big Brother's rules including not wearing their microphones properly, speaking vocabulary as well as getting into fight and heated arguments.
For this week's eviction show, the show started with a thrilling performance from singer YCee, who had the audience enjoying his show of talent and mastery as they anticipated the events of the evening.
Then Ebuka asked the housemates some questions before announcing that Nelson will be living the house. Social media users reacted to the eviction and some could sense the sadness of Esther who appeared to have been liking the one-time head of house.
Nelson who was invited on stage right after his eviction confirmed to Ebuka that he had a feeling he will be leaving the house and is not at all surprised that he got the least votes.
The evicted housemate told Ebuka that he thinks the winner of the show might be Mike or Omashola.
Thelma was also evicted shortly after and invited to the stage to be interviewed by Ebuka. Thelma who captured the attention of many viewers with her dancing steps expressed sadness that she is leaving the house.

Real Madrid call off Wales forward's China move - Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale's move to China is off after Real Madrid cancelled the deal, with the Wales winger now set to stay at the Spanish club.
Bale, 30, had been expected to join Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning on a three-year deal, earning a reported £1m a week.
Last week Real boss Zinedine Zidane said Bale was "very close to leaving"having fallen out of favour.
Zidane added his exit would be "best for everyone".
Bale joined the Spanish club for £85m from Tottenham in 2013 in a world record deal at the time.
He has three years left on his contract with the Bernabeu club where he has won four Champions Leagues, one La Liga title, a Copa del Rey, three Uefa Super Cups and three Club World Cups.
Bale scored three goals, plus a penalty in a shootout, in four Champions League finals for Real as they won the competition in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
However, injury problems have limited him to 79 La Liga starts in the past four seasons.
He played 42 matches for Real Madrid last season but was booed by the home supporters at times during the campaign.
It has been reported Real blocked Bale's move as they are demanding a transfer fee for the player.
Real have also had their attacking options depleted with winger Marco Asensio set to miss the majority of the 2019-20 season after rupturing his knee ligaments.
Zidane's return as Real boss in March was described as "bad news" by the forward's agent, Jonathan Barnett, because the Frenchman did not want to work with Bale and the two men disagreed on playing style.
However, Real president Florentino Perez has often defended the Welshman.
Bale ended last season on the bench as Real endured their poorest domestic campaign in 20 years, with 12 defeats, 68 points and a third-place finish - 19 points behind champions Barcelona. They were also knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax in the last 16.
Bale has reportedly been nicknamed 'The Golfer' by his Real team-mates, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said Bale did not attend a team meal because he did not want to miss his bed time.

Egan Bernal wins, Geraint Thomas second, Caleb Ewan wins in Paris

Egan Bernal with Ineos team-mates on the finish line in Paris

Egan Bernal became the youngest rider in 110 years to win the Tour de France after Caleb Ewan won the traditional sprint finish in Paris.
With the race leader not challenged on the final stage, 22-year-old Bernal became the first Colombian winner.
He crossed the line in the peloton, hand-in-hand with his Ineos team-mate and last year's winner Geraint Thomas, who finished second this time.
"To finish second behind a team-mate makes it OK," said Welshman Thomas.
"Two years ago I had my arm in a sling with a broken collarbone watching Chris Froome win, wishing I was riding and I would've taken second then, but it just shows how time and expectations have moved on.
"Egan is the future and when I'm 45 and old and fat and sat in the pub watching him win a 10th Tour de France I can say I told him all I know."
Thomas went into the three-week race as joint leader with Bernal but his preparations had been disrupted when he crashed while travelling at around 50mph in the Tour de Suisse in June.
He had to abandon that week-long race and then he had three minor crashes during this year's Tour.
Thomas led Bernal for much of the race but his team-mate was stronger in the final week in the Alps, and ended up winning by one minute 11 seconds, with Dutch rider Steven Kruijswijk 20 seconds further adrift in third.
"Thanks to all my team and thank you G [Geraint Thomas] for giving me the opportunity," said Bernal. "I'm the happiest guy in the world. I have just won the Tour de France and I can't believe it."
Bernal's victory is the seventh in eight years for a British-based team, after Ineos took over the ownership of the Team Sky squad earlier this year.
Bradley Wiggins became the first British winner of the race in 2012, with Chris Froome triumphing in 2013 and then claiming three in succession from 2015 before Thomas took last year's title.
Bernal is just the third Colombian to win one of cycling's three Grand Tours. Nairo Quintana won the 2014 Giro d'Italia and 2016 Vuelta a Espana, while Luis Herera won the Vuelta in 1987.

President Buhari speaks in new book: How we merged to defeat PDP in 2015

How we merged to defeat PDP in 2015 - President Buhari speaks in new book

President Buhari talked about some 'behind the scene' incidents that led to defeat of the People's Democratic Party in the 2015  election, in a book written by the Director-General of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) Comrade Salihu Mohammed Lukman.

Buhari revealed that only the Southwest was a secured constituency when the merger talks between four parties; Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was initiated. He also admitted that the merger became neccesary when it dawned on opposition parties that they can't defeat the PDP individually.

“At one point, we in the four former opposition parties, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), came to the painful realisation that there was no way we could defeat the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as separate entities without coming together as a united force.
“So, having agreed to come together, we decided to set up committees to look into how we can best merge to form a formidable opposition party. After that each of the four parties developed the terms of reference for the committees on the modalities of the negotiations for the merger.
“We, however, made it clear that none of the committees has the power to take any final decision on the merger. Their work was mainly to discuss with their party members and report the outcome of the discussion to the leadership of their parties.
“The understanding was that the final decision regarding how to go about the merger would be made by the executives of each of the parties. We wanted to make the process as democratic as possible" he said.

The President however noted that Nigeria would have been worse if the merger talks between the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Interim (pioneer) National Chairman of the new party, Chief Bisi Akande had failed.

“The decision to come together and agree to merge to become a strong opposition party that will face PDP was historic. In my reckoning, it was one of the most significant political development in contemporary Nigerian political history. I hope historians will record the events correctly,” he stressed.
“I would recall speaking to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande at the commencement of the merger negotiations about the need to have a broad-based national political party, because at that point the South-West geopolitical zone of the country was the only secured constituency, while there were sharp divisions in the other geopolitical zones (North West, North East, North Central, the South East and the South South).
“We eventually succeeded in coming together. It was a major sacrifice made by the leadership of the respective political parties. And the significance of this event was underscored by the fact that the future of Nigeria was tied to it. Which is why for historians and political scientists, it becomes a major research question.
“I always wonder what would have been the political, economic and security consequences to the country without the merger of the old opposition parties and seizing political power from the ruling PDP democratically.
“I wonder how many people have taken the time to reflect on this development and make projections as to what could have happened if the opposition had failed to come together to take away power from PDP.”

Also reacting to the criticism he has faced over his performance in office, President Buhari insisted that his government prevented the nation’s downward slide under PDP government.

“I have been constrained to go public several times to remind Nigerians where this country was economically and socially and the deplorable conditions of the nation’s infrastructure, despite the unprecedented huge earnings from oil exports between I999-20l4, and how the then ruling PDP squandered nation’s resources and opportunities.
“Fortunately, we have been able to reverse this downward slide in such a short period of time, even under more challenging circumstances from 20I5 to date.
“I feel that without coming together, we would not have been able to achieve this feat. And Nigeria will be the worse for it. We remain the only hope of the country in terms of charting a politically stable and economically prosperous future for our people.
“I will, therefore, encourage us to continue leading this country effectively, now that Nigerians have entrusted us with a mandate once again to chart the course for the future of our beloved nation.
“There is no doubt that we have the popular support of Nigerians. l have seen this myself when I went around the 36 states and FCT during the electioneering campaigns. The turnout of people and messages of goodwill across the country was what no individual, party or government could organize or buy. It was purely a demonstration of confidence in our Administration and its political platform, the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), the product of the merger.
“The multitudes that trooped out to see me and hear me out was reassuring that Nigeria, despite its cultural diversities, are united on the imperative of change.
“Our duty as leaders is to ensure that we keep this nation united, build a better future for the citizens and the coming generation" he said.
