Just In: Boko Haram kills 23 mourners after funeral in Maiduguri
On Saturday, July 27th, Boko Haram gunmen killed 23 mourners in Borno statte after they attended a funeral.
According to a report by AFP, the attackers on three motorbikes opened fire on a group of men as they walked back from a funeral in Nganzai district near the state capital Maiduguri, local militia leader, Bunu Bukar Mustapha, said.
"Our men recovered 23 dead bodies from the scene of the attack, which happened this morning," Mustapha told AFP. The men were returning to Badu Kuluwu from nearby Goni Abachari village where they had attended funeral prayers for a relative, Mustapha said.
A Nganzai district official confirmed both the incident and death toll. "I received calls from Nganzai that Boko Haram killed 23 people near Badu Kuluwu this morning," said the official. Local hunters and militia recovered the bodies after survivors returned to the village and alerted them, Nganzai resident Saleh Masida said.
Boko Haram fighters have been repeatedly attacking Nganzai district. In September last year, the group killed eight people and stole livestock in two villages in the area after residents tried to stop them from taking their animals.
AAC Reaffirms Sowore As National Chairman
AAC Deputy National Secretary, Joshua Adeoye, read the party’s resolution after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday in Abuja.
A Federal High Court in Abuja had on July 12 validated Sowore’s suspension and that of Malcom Fabiyi as the Deputy National Chairman.
Mr Adeoye, however, said allegations against Sowore leading to his purported expulsion from the party were manufactured, adding that there was no case of financial impropriety against him.
Adeoye said Sowore as a candidate declared campaign money, adding that he carried the people along as money was being spent to the end of the campaign.
“The NEC outrightly rejects, cancels, reverses and totally repudiates the purported suspension of Sowore and Fabiyi from their offices.
“The NEC hereby affirms and reinstate Sowore as the one and only national chairman of AAC and Fabiyi as the deputy national chairman of the party,” the party said.
Adeoye added that all actions carried out by Nzenwain the name of AAC including documents signed or authored by him ‘are dismissed, set aside and nullified forthwith’.
According to him, Ezenwa’s expulsion followed his failure to appear before the NEC to defend himself in line with article 80 of AAC constitution which found him guilty of the alleged offense.
The party called for immediate arrest and prosecution of Ezenwa for alleged forgery and perjury among other criminal acts.

Oluwole Ilesanmi, 64, has welcomed the payout by the Metropolitan Police as a victory for freedom of speech after he was wrongly accused of Islamophobia.
The former dentist was preaching outside Southgate Tube station in North London in February when he was approached by two officers. A passer-by had earlier called police and accused Mr. Ilesanmi of hate speech.
He admitted to having described Islam as an ‘aberration’ but insists he was simply expressing his point of view as a Christian rather than denigrating Muslims. One of the police officers claimed Mr. Ilesanmi was disturbing the peace, saying: ‘No one wants to hear that. They want you to go away.’
He was handcuffed before the officer gave a thumbs-up to the camera. Mr. Ilesanmi was then bundled into a police car and driven several miles away. There the grandfather was ‘de-arrested’ and let out of the car.
Scotland Yard has now agreed to pay Mr. Ilesanmi £2,500 for wrongful arrest and his humiliating and distressing treatment. Mr. Ilesanmi told UK's The Mail on Sunday:
‘I believe God loves everyone, including Muslims, but I have the right to say I that I don’t agree with Islam we are living in a Christian country, after all. I was upset when they took away my Bible. They just threw it in the police car. They would never have done that if it had been the Koran. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?’
No court order can stop us from practicing our religion- Shi'ites
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) better known as Shi'ites, have reacted to the court ruling obtained by the Federal government, declaring them as a terrorist group. Recall that on Friday July 26th, Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court in Abuja, proscribed the group, banning their activities across the Federation. The Federal government is expected to gazette the ruling on Monday July 29th.
The proscription followed the bloody clash the Islamic group members had with the police on Monday July 22nd in Abuja. The clash led to the death of a youth Corper serving with Channels TV, Precious Owolabi, a deputy police commissioner Umar Bebel and 10 others.
Reacting to the ruling, the secretary to the academic forum of the movement, Abdullahi Musa, said the Federal government cannot stop the group from practising its religion.
“Everybody is aware of their moves. All they want is to suppress the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) just to please Saudi Arabia. They want to kill Sheik Ibrahim Zakzaky and silence all of us. When they were killing us, they didn’t get any court order. Now, they are talking of court order, does Buhari obey court orders?I don’t think any court has the right to ban any religious group. Islamic movement in Nigeria is not an organisation registered under the government, it is a religious group. Are they trying to stop us from saying our daily prayers?”Do they want to stop us from participating in our Christian neighbour activities? They want to stop us from going to Mecca? The issue is that they have been killing and they want to continue the killings, they should go ahead with their killings, no need to wait for any court. We are practising religion and we will continue to practice our religion, there is no killing or act of intimidation that will stop us from practicing our religion.The president or the governor of any state cannot force us to adopt their ideology, they want us to succumb to their own ideology and we have said no. This government is killing us because they feel that it this is time for Jihad. They should go ahead with their jihad, when they are through with us they will move to the Christians and other religious bodies.You can’t just wake up and say you have proscribed the activities of IMN. It’s like saying you have banned the Catholic Church or any other church. Does that make any sense? Is there any constitution backing that? We are practising religion and we will continue practicing religion they have been killing us and we did not stop practising our religion, they should go ahead because we won’t stop.”
Musa vowed that they will continue to stage a protest until their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, is released.
“Once they allow Zakzaky out of custody, we will leave the streets. If they release him today, they will not see us on the street tomorrow. “ he said

Breaking News: Cannibal killer stabs ex-girlfriend to death, saws her open to eat her brain, heart and lung
38-year-old Joseph Oberhansley, accused of killing his 46-year-old ex-girlfriend Tammy Jo Blanton, and also using an electric saw to open her skull and gobble part of her brain, lungs and heart in Jeffersonville, Indiana, is now denying the murder act he confessed to when arrested in 2014.
The deceased was reportedly found under a vinyl camping tent draped over her bath in September 2014. The cops said her skull was removed, and a “plate with what appeared to be skull bone and blood” was also found.
At a pre-trial hearing at Clark County Court, Oberhansley said allegations of him raping his late ex-girlfriend the weekend before were “bull crap lies”. He thereafter, suggested that investigators missed the real murder weapon and that it couldn’t have been the “cheap little knife”.
The alleged Cannibal Killer who ignored his frustrated lawyer's warning to keep quiet, had earlier been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial in October 2017, but last November a doctor found his competency had been restored at a psychiatric hospital.
Before Tammy's murder, Oberhansley was free on parole for fatally gunning down his girlfriend Sabrina Elder, 17, in a drug-fuelled jealous rage in 1998. His mother and sister were also victims of his rage, as it was gathered that he shot them in the back, before tucking the weapon under his chin and pulling the trigger to give himself a “partial lobotomy.”
Oberhansley’s trial is due to start on August 19, and he faces life in jail without parole if convicted.

Civil engineer jailed for illegally withdrawn N540k from his friend's phone
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office on July 26, 2019 secured the conviction of Hammed Lanre, a Civil Engineer, who was arraigned before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High sitting in Ilorin, for offence bordering on stealing.
He was alleged to have illegally withdrawn the sum of N540,000 using the phone of his friend who had offered the phone to him to access Facebook. Lanre had accessed his friend's PIN and used it to withdraw the money. Operatives of the EFCC, thereafter, located and arrested him in Lagos.
He was first arraigned on July 8, 2019 on a two-count charge to which he pleaded “not guilty”. However, realizing the strength of the evidence gathered against him, he approached the EFCC for a plea bargain, which led to him being re-arraigned on an amended charge to which he pleaded “guilty”.
The amended charge reads: “That you, Hammed Folorunsho Lanre, sometimes around 29th, May 2019, at Ilorin, within the judicial division of the High Court, committed theft by taking dishonestly, money belonging to Hammed Muritala when you transferred the gross sum of N540,000 via his mobile phone, from Stanbic Ibtc into your bet9ja pay stack website account without his consent and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 286 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code Law.”
Thereafter, Justice Abdulgafar sentenced him to one year in prison to commence from May 30, 2019, the day he was arrested.
Breaking News: Lifeless body of missing 4-year-old South African girl found in pit toilet, police reveals she was raped
The body of four-year-old Naledi Chaka, who went missing on Sunday, was found dead in this pit toilet in Bloemfontein on July 25 2019. She had been raped.
Following the gruesome discovery, a 36-year-old man was arrested by police. He allegedly lured the little girl with sweets. Naledi Chaka was last seen near her home in Selosesha, Zone Two, on Sunday.
"About 5pm, an unknown male asked the little girl to go with him and promised to buy her sweets," said police spokesperson Col Thandi Mbambo.
Prior to her disappearance, Chaka had been dressed in a grey and pink jacket, blue pants and black running shoes.
On Wednesday, police found her pants and shoes near her home.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Thaba'Nchu Magistrate's Court soon on charges of kidnapping, rape and murder.

NAFDAC destroy N14.7b Tramadol and other illicit drugs in Ogun State
58 containers of banned Tramadol and other illicit drugs worth N14.7 billion in Ogun state are said to have been destroyed by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Speaking at the destruction exercise at Sagamu dumpsite, Ogun State, yesterday, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali, condemned the activities of smugglers who import banned drugs and other harmful substances into Nigeria.
However, the Assistant Comptroller of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Inspection, and Investigation (E,I&I) Aminu Dahiru, who is the committee chairman, said the seizures have in no small way prevented social vices such as kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry and other associated crimes threatening the peace and security of the country.
The exercise in Ogun State was witnessed by NAFDAC and ACG Dahiru, who lamented the drugs would have caused collateral damages allowed to be sneaked into the society via smuggling.
According to him, a total of 58 containers of tramadol and other dangerous and unregistered pharmaceuticals with a duty paid value of N14,706,032,871 were seized by various commands of the Nigerian Customs Service.
He assured similar exercises would be carried out at the Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Bauchi zones of Nigeria Customs Service in due course.
The destroyed drugs, he said, constitute just meagre number among the numerous seizures, already handed over to NAFDAC and NDLEA for destruction in the past.
These quantities of seizures recorded by NCS officers, he noted, have not been without some cost of series of threats, attacks, maiming and even killings of officers.

The lawmakers condemned the sad act before handing an indefinited suspension to Imoh, pending the outcome of an investigation by the State's House of Assembly's committee on local government matters. It is expected they will report back to the assembly after a month.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, had on Wednesday also condemned the incident, describing it as “unacceptable in a civilised society and does not represent our core values”.
Arsenal's Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac face carjacking gang
Two Premier League footballers have been involved in a carjacking attempt by an armed gang in a London street.
Arsenal players Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac were targeted, the club confirmed, but both escaped uninjured.
Footage on social media appears to show Kolasinac chasing the robbers in Platts Lane, near Golders Green, at about 17:00 BST.
In a video that has circulated on social media, full-back Kolasinac is seen fighting off two men who are wielding knives.
The player can be seen jumping out of a vehicle to confront the masked men who had pulled alongside the car on mopeds.
In the footage, both car jackers were seen to be armed and were filmed brandishing knives at 26-year-old Kolasinac.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "It was reported that suspects on motorbikes had attempted to rob a man who was driving a car.
"The driver, along with his passenger, managed to get away unharmed and travelled to a restaurant in Golders Green, where they were spoken to by officers."
There have been no arrests so far.
Kolasinac and midfielder Ozil are not the first footballers to be targeted on London's roads.
In 2016, then West Ham striker Andy Carroll was threatened at gunpoint on his way home from training.
Arsenal said in a statement: "We have been in contact with both players and they are fine."
