The Delta-state based football pundit died early this morning September 29, 2017 in Warri, Delta State, according to multiple online reports.

Governors Want FG To Hand Over Federal Roads To States

The governors of the 36 state of the federation in Nigeria have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to handover some of the roads belonging to the Federal Government to them to fix.


This was part of their demands at the National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Briefing State House Correspondents after the six-hour meeting, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi alongside Kwara State Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed, said the NEC was concerned about the poor state of federal roads.


The Ebonyi governor said it had become clear that the federal government lacked the required funds to fix roads.

Ahmed on his part said despite being faced with the challenge of paying salaries, states could fix roads through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

Manchester firefighter suspended after photo of couple 'having sex' in fire engine appears online

A firefighter has reportedly been suspended after a picture of a couple apparently having sex in a fire engine appeared online.

The photo was said to have been ‘one of a series of explicit images posted on a swingers’ website’, by a man who claimed he was a firefighter.

The image was published in the Sun newspaper in the summer.

This prompted an investigation by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service after the image showed equipment bearing its website address inside the engine.

A spokesman for the fire service said: ‘We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of an incident that appeared in the national media in June.

‘A full report will be prepared at the conclusion of that investigation.’

A 23-year-old lady identified as Lara Nosiru, allegedly jumped to her death after having suicide-based discussions with her friend

Late Lara who was a university undergraduate, leapt off the Clifton suspension bridge in Bristol, UK sometime in January 2017. 

According to reports, Lara had held discussions bordering on suicide with one of her friends identified as Kasumi Kishi, before eventually taking her own life. 

Lara allegedly took some Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) before taking a taxi to the bridge where she jumped off from.

About two days after her death, Kishi who was beside her when she jumped, told some of their mutual friends including one Alex Gough who was Lara's flatmate, that they had discussed several methods of killing themselves together. 

Saying that if someone wanted to die, it was 'cruel to make them stay alive'. Another flatmate identified as Solene Rebibo, said Kishi 'seemed comfortable' while talking about suicide with them. 

An inquest was opened, and investigations claim Lara had suffered some form of depression for about four years, and decided to take the LSD overdose the night before she killed herself. 

Proving the depression story to be true, Dr Niklas Serning, a Psychotherapist, said Lara had been his patient for about one year. 

Stating that he had seen her every week and that she was 'extremely bright' and would always discuss the meaning of life with him. 

CCTV cameras showed Kishi had tried twice to stop Lara from jumping before eventually giving up and walking away. However, Lara's mother identified as Olu, said “she could have saved her.”

The chairman of ICPC, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, says the commission has adopted a holistic approach to combat corruption

The ICPC boss says the agency is prosecuting the proprietors of some illegal universities recently shutdown by the commission Some illegal universities and fake NYSC camps operating in parts of the country have been shut down by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). 

The chairman of the commission, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, said in total, the agency shut about 21 illegal universities and fake NYSC camps across the country, Sun reports. 

Owasanoye made the disclosure on Thursday, September 28, in Kebbi state during one-day interactive seminar for religious leaders. 

The chairman who was represented by the ICPC Sokoto office head, Jimoy Bulus Mai, stated that the commission had to adopt a holistic approach to combat corruption.

'Mona Lisa nude sketch' found in France

A charcoal drawing housed in another art collection for more than 150 years may have been a sketch for the Mona Lisa, a French art expert says.

The charcoal portrait of a nude woman, known as the Monna Vanna, was previously attributed only to Leonardo da Vinci's studio.

But experts have found enough clues to suggest the artist worked on both.

After tests at the Louvre Museum in Paris, curators believe the sketch is "at least in part" by Leonardo.

It has been held since 1862 in the collection of Renaissance art at the Conde Museum at the Palace of Chantilly, north of the French capital.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was one of the great painters of the Italian Renaissance, and his Mona Lisa oil painting (also known as La Gioconda) remains one of the world's most recognisable and valuable works of art.

It is believed to have been a commission from cloth merchant and Florentine official Francesco del Giocondo for a portrait of his wife, Lisa Gherardini.

A Nigerian man identified as Kwankwason Mohammed has shared the story of how he received expensive gifts from a white woman he met on social media

Mohammed who was excited about his expensive gifts shared the story on his Facebook page in Hausa language. 

According to Mohammed, he accepted a friend request from someone named Pretty Jenny on Facebook and they became friends. 

The young man explained that Jenny chatted him up after he accepted her request and they have been friends ever since.

He noted that one day she asked him to do a video chat with her but he told her he could not because of the type of phone he was using. 

Jenny who lives in England decided to buy the young man a laptop and a phone for better communication between the two friends. 

According to Mohammed, Jenny who is a widow expressed her wishes to marry him. She told him her husband died years ago. 

Mohammed who did not state his intentions on her proposal to marry him noted that although he is excited about the gifts, he is also worried about how to repay her.

Plans for a third ‘Sex And The City’ movie have been axed, reportedly thanks to the ‘outrageous’ demands of actress Kim Cattrall.

According to the Daily Mail, production of the film was ‘days away’ at Warner Bros.

But it’s claimed that the 61-year-old actress, who played the voracious publicist Samantha Jones, was refusing to sign up unless the studio agreed to produce other movies she has in development.

When the studio refused, it then cancelled the project, rather than go ahead with three out of the four original characters from the TV show and movie series.

A source told the paper: “The only reason this movie isn’t being made is because of Kim Cattrall. Everyone was looking forward to making this movie but Kim made it all about her, always playing the victim.

Mumbai railway station stampede kills 22 amid heavy rain

A stampede on a footbridge at a Mumbai railway station has left 22 people dead and injured more than 30, Indian officials report.

The tragedy occurred during the morning rush hour at Elphinstone station, which connects two major local lines.

It was triggered by overcrowding and people seeking shelter from monsoon rains, the officials said.

The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital and senior railway officials are at the scene.

"The incident occurred as heavy rains lashed Mumbai and passengers took refuge on the foot overbridge. People at the front slipped and the huge crowd toppled over, leading to the stampede," Indian Railways spokesman Ravindra Bhakar told AFP news agency.

"Twenty-two dead have been confirmed, 14 men and eight women... Some 32 passengers are injured."

War with North Korea is now 'a real possibility'

War with North Korea that could lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths is now ‘a real possibility’, according to the UK’s leading defence think tank.

The latest report from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) found that the likelihood of war has increased markedly, thanks to the rapid nuclear advances achieved by Kim Jong-un’s regime, coupled with the Trump administration’s position that ‘classical deterrence theory’ is no longer working.

If war were to break out then ‘high casualties’ numbering hundreds of thousands can be expected, even without the use of nuclear weapons, says the report, titled ‘Preparing for War in Korea’.

In the last few years North Korea has greatly increased its nuclear capability and the threat it poses to the United States in particular.

The rogue state may already have the capability to strike Guam and Alaska with nuclear weapons, as well as the closer targets of South Korea and Japan.

The Pentagon predicts that North Korea will have a ‘reliable, nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile’ programme by the end of 2018.

Pyongyang is also exercising other elements of its military so that it is ‘ready to use them rapidly in a crisis’, increasing the threat posed to its immediate neighbours.
