2 days after cows invaded Akure runway, FAAN suspends airport security head

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has suspended the head of aviation security in Akure, Ondo state, following the invasion of the airport runway by cows on Saturday, February 17.

Punch reports that an Air Peace flight from Lagos was at about 12:15pm on Saturday, February 17, prevented from landing at the Akure airport, as cows took over the runway.

Eyewitnesses said it took the efforts of airport security and other aviation staff to clear the runway.

The general manager, corporate affairs, FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, said on Monday, February 19, that the agency was not unaware of recent developments at some airports within the country with respect to security breaches, and had started putting measures in place to improve security.

Yakubu stated: “We have taken various initiatives and measures to guard against breaches of any sort at all our airports nationwide.

It will be recalled that there had been serious allegations of security breaches at some airports recently, the latest being the incursion of the Akure airport runway, which led to a temporary disruption of landing procedures of an inbound Air Peace flight. “While we apologise for the incident, we want to state that officers of the security department quickly dispersed the cows from the runway to allow for a successful landing of the flight.

How Steven Bradbury's incredible story could inspire GB skater - Elise Christie

Onlookers could only wince, grimace and sympathise with British medal hope Elise Christie as she failed in her fifth consecutive Olympic short track race on Saturday - injuring her ankle in the process.
But is her run of crashes and disqualifications down to bad luck, poor tactics, or just the sheer brutality of the sport?
Australian Steven Bradbury, watching from his home in Brisbane, knew exactly what the three-time world champion was going through.
He suffered disqualifications at two consecutive Games and had to overcome a broken neck and losing four litres of blood on the ice.
Yet he was able to recover from all that to win what is now dubbed as the 'luckiest' gold medal in Winter Olympic history.
"People in the sport understand the nature of short track and situations like this, as Elise has found out, are common," said 44-year-old Bradbury.
"You have to think that there's an upside to come for her. There just has to be. Her ability is incredible.
"She's not the smartest racer in the world, that's a given. Sometimes she does dumb things out there on the ice and puts herself in positions that she doesn't need to.
"But her story is one of more bad luck than I've ever seen in the sport. And for me, I've had my share of bad luck."

Wigan send Manchester City out of the 2018 FA Cup

Current Premier League leaders Manchester City have been sent out of the 2018 English FA Cup after losing to lower League side Wigan Athletic in their 5th round match on Monday night, February 19.

Manchester City played almost the entire second half with 10 men after Fabian Delph was red carded for a bad tackle on Max Power in which the referee had no choice than to send him off.

Sergio Aguero had a superb chance to score for Manchester City in the 25th minute, but his shot was well saved by Wigan goalkeeper Christian Walton.

'De Bruyne different to any other midfielder'

Martinez is looking forward to watching De Bruyne play for City against the League One leaders. The 26-year-old midfielder has played a central role in his side's stellar season.
"In the past two seasons, Kevin has grown game by game," Martinez told Humb's Blog. "Now he has got an influence that is a joy to watch.
"The way he is affecting games in such a consistent manner makes him very different to any other midfielder at a top team in Europe at the moment. Hopefully he can win trophies from now until the end of the season, because he deserves them."

FA Cup: Roberto Martinez on how Wigan ethos can help Belgium win World Cup

On the face of it, winning the World Cup seems a very different challenge to negotiating a successful FA Cup campaign but, as Belgium boss Roberto Martinez explains, there are actually several similarities.
No manager has ever won both competitions, but Martinez will attempt to become the first this summer when he leads the highly rated Red Devils in Russia.
And part of his plan involves the same combination of strategy and psychology that saw him steer Wigan to a famous victory over Manchester City in the 2013 FA Cup final.
Martinez joins Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Joleon Lescott in the BBC studio at the DW Stadium on Monday, as the Latics look to upset the runaway Premier League leaders again in a rematch of that tie.
In a wide-ranging interview, the Spaniard discusses that Wembley win, why it is so good to work with City's Belgium playmaker Kevin de Bruyne, and how Romelu Lukaku's first season at Manchester United has been the making of him.

Budget 2018 suffers more setback as senators face-off with FG officials

A report by The Guardian indicates that the face-off between the Senate and ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) over the latter’s failure to make budget details available to the National Assembly, may have dimmed any hope of an early approval of the N8.612trillion national budget.

According to the report, the upper legislative chamber is insisting that until it gets details of the MDAs budgets, the 2018 budget stands delayed. Last week, the Senate gave a one-week ultimatum to all MDAs to submit the details of their budgets, adding that of the 64 federal agencies captured in the 2018 budget, only one has submitted its budget details to the National Assembly.

INEC A member of the Senate appropriation committee, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, recently disclosed that the MDAs failure to submit the details might stall its early passage.

Ibrahim, who is also the chairman of the Senate committee on banking, insurance and other financial institutions, further disclosed that the Senate might also ignore the MDAs and proceed with the submissions already made by President Muhammadu Buhari in the budget estimates, pointing out that the Senate would not continue to wait for the MDAs indefinitely.

Ibrahim said: “The speed at which the budget will be passed will depend on the seriousness of the MDAs. And that is why the Senate gave an ultimatum. But if the MDAs fail to come forward, the Senate will do the budget the way we feel is best for Nigeria. We can even ignore them and proceed to prepare the budget based on the president’s submission.

DON’T PLAY GOD IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP Written by Counselor Adofoli

Many are hurt and in pain in various relationships just because they have given their all to someone.

They have been there for these people through thick and thin, and were stuck to them no matter what.

Only to receive the shock of their lives when the same people just gave up on them one day; those they stood up for wouldn’t even lift as much as a finger to fight for them. Things you wish they could ponder on before acting, they did it in a second without thinking twice.

You thought the relationship you shared meant the world to them as it did to you, but were sorry to find out, it meant nothing.

You see them as your sunshine, your hope, happiness and future, but they see you as their darkness. They only want you when things are bad for them and when they need help.

The truth is, you don't have control over someone’s actions or thoughts, the only person you have that control over is you. So have a great relationship with yourself.

Love yourself for who you want to be but love people for who they are. You are human and can never change people. You can confront them for their bad behaviour, things you are not happy with, or things they have done to hurt you, but never try to change them or force them to do so.

Disconnections start in a relationship when you want to play the role of God in the relationship instead of being a man.

The best you can do for the people you love but not happy with their behaviour, is to pray to God and trust Him to change them.

You have all it takes to love and change yourself; please do that and create your own sunshine when your partner puts you through storms, but also wait and rely on God to bring back the calm.

I know you still believe in love despite what they have put you through and you have a hard time believing or trusting people, but you can trust God to heal your marriage.

God is faithful and if you are doing what is right then trust Him with your marriage; He will come through for you. Once you give it up to God, please hold no grudges, bitterness, resentment or anger against anyone. Let God work for you.

In conclusion "Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God"- 1 Peter 3:4 (TLB).

Please share with your friends, someone out there needs this.

New Zealand v England: Hosts reach T20 tri-series final despite defeat

England beat New Zealand by two runs but failed to reach the Twenty20 tri-series final against Australia.
Captain Eoin Morgan hit 80 not out to help England post 194-7, ensuring they needed to restrict New Zealand to less than 175 to go through on net run rate.
The hosts surged past that mark thanks to Colin Munro's 57 from 21 balls and Martin Guptill's 62 off 47 at Hamilton.
Tom Curran's superb final over meant the Kiwis fell short in a thriller, but England bowled poorly early on.
New Zealand face Australia in the final at Auckland on Wednesday because of a superior net run rate over that of England, who ended a run of three consecutive defeats with their first win of the series in the final group game.
England will next play New Zealand in a five-match one-day international series, with the first game at Hamilton on Sunday, 25 February.
